loner in da pool

It was my fist swim meet on Hawks Swimming. My mom and I drove to Woodbury high school at 7am for warm-ups. When my mom dropped me off out front, I walked into the cafeteria and it was a mad-house, three swim teams were crammed into this too-small space, each team dominating a certain section of the floor. Parents were yelling and getting their kids set-up, coaches were yelling at everyone to get to the pool. Quickly, Lilly and Caroline pulled me out with them and we ran down the empty hallways to the locker-room. While we were there I had so many questions about what they were swimming, and when would we warm up and how long the meet would take. All they did was smile and nod their heads at me, constantly looking at each other as if they both had something to tell me. That’s when I realized they knew what I was swimming.

After warmups everyone sprinted back to the cafeteria for their towels. Coaches were already helping the younger kid’s get their events, and the older swimming’s waited, impatiently for the heat sheets. Caroline and Lilly were still giggling with each other as it was my turn to write down my events. The 200 Back, awesome. My least favorite stroke. Luckily I was in heat 1 with the slower swimmers. Luckily Caroline and Lilly were both swimming it with me, although neither of them were in the same heat as me.

When I got to the bench on the pool deck, I realized that I would be swimming the entire 8 laps alone. Worst feeling ever. The only good thing about swimming alone is that you always win.
